Compare Data from SAP

The content of database tables in a Local System Database may be compared after Transfer Data from SAP.

This functionality is useful for identifying configuration or master data differences between two SAP clients.

The comparison is between one or more tables sourced from a first and second SAP system-client.

Each report row is assigned a row status of NEW, MISSING, COMMON (based on primary key fields), or DIFFERENT (same primary key, but differing non-key values).

A 5-minute demonstration video is available for this functionality.  Videos open in a new window and there may be a delay of several minutes before the video begins to play. As an alternative, right click the link, save the video to your hard drive, and play the video from your hard drive.

Features

Options

To manage option settings, choose File and then Options from the main menu ribbon.

Options > Database Comparison Report > Include New Rows

TRUE =  Include report rows that have been assigned a status of NEW based on a primary key comparison.

NEW indicates rows found only in the first system-client.

Options > Database Comparison Report > Include Missing Rows

TRUE =  Include report rows that have been assigned a status of MISSING based on a primary key comparison.

MISSING indicates rows found only in the second system-client.

Options > Database Comparison Report > Include Common Rows

TRUE =  Include report rows that have been assigned a status of COMMON based on a primary key comparison.

COMMON indicates rows found in both the first system-client and second system-client.

Options > Database Comparison Report > Include Detail for Common Rows

TRUE = For report rows that have been assigned a status of COMMON, include additional rows to show the full detail from each system-client.

This option decreases performance but offers an advantage. Because rows are indicated as COMMON based only on primary key, this option reveals differences that may exist for non-key fields, such as descriptions.

Options > Database Comparison Report > Highlight Common Rows

TRUE = If Include Detail for Common Rows is also TRUE highlight non-key fields that differ in detail rows.

Options > Database Comparison Report > Include Tables Without Report Rows

TRUE =  Include report rows that have been assigned a status of COMMON based on a primary key comparison.

Prerequisites

Compare Data from SAP functionality requires Local System Database table names to be prefixed with SYSTEM and CLIENT.

For example, if LFA1 is extracted from ECD-300, then the table name in the Local System Database will be ECD300_LFA1.

To accomplish this, before performing the Transfer Data from SAP step, the option to Prefix Table Names (Options > Transfer From SAP > Prefix Table Names) must be set to TRUE.

Execution Overview

You'll primarily use the new buttons on the External Data ribbon tab.

Report Detail

For clarity, for report rows with a ROW STATUS of either NEW or MISSING, the comparison report includes the explicit system and client names.
