The sample data form is an application for creating, viewing, importing, exporting, and validating data.
Sample data is a key deliverable of the Data Migration Process. During Publish, sample data saved in the mapping project is included as worksheets in the Field-Mapping Workbook and as Load-Ready files to support unit testing of data migration objects.
The schema, or structure, of sample data is disconnected from and not actively maintained as segment and field selections are maintained in a mapping project.
In practice, a mapping project is usually created (i.e. segments and fields made active) and then sample data is maintained per the schema defined by active segments and fields.
If a field is later added or removed from the mapping project then the sample data is not immediately changed. When the Sample Data form is next opened, the sample data is untouched, per the old schema, and the user is warned that the sample data does not align with the current schema.
There is a toolbar button to check sample data against the current schema, and another toolbar button to attempt to transfer existing sample data to the current schema.
Apply and Cancel Buttons
When data is maintained in the Sample Data form it is only saved in the mapping project if the Apply button is used to close the Sample Data form.
This enables the flexibly to use the Sample Data form without losing the current sample data.
For example, data can be imported into the Sample Data form from Load-Ready files or from the Windows clipboard and validated. But the imported data is not saved to the mapping project unless the Apply button is used to close the Sample Data form.
Clears all sample data grids and adjusts all grids to adhere to the current mapping selection of segments and fields.
Open from XML
Opens an XML file of Sample Data and loads it into the grids, replacing existing sample data.
Import From IDoc
Import sample data from an IDoc that was exported from SAP and saved as a text file. In WE02, Choose IDoc, Print IDoc, and then List, Export, Local File as Unconverted.
Save as XML
Saves the current sample data to an XML file.
Import from Load-Ready Files
Select a folder containing Load-Ready files. The files are imported into the grids, replacing existing sample data.
Import from Clipboard
Pastes values from the Windows Clipboard, replacing existing sample data. This is useful for pasting a range of cells that have been copied from an Excel worksheet, such as a data collection template.
Import from Excel
Import sample data from an Excel workbook. Worksheet names must match the staging table names; all worksheets are imported at once. Worksheet values are trimmed of leading and trailing spaces during import. Worksheet columns are automatically mapped during import; the order of columns need not match the mapping definition, and extra columns are ignored. Rows of data are imported until an empty row in the worksheet is encountered, then the process moves on to the next worksheet or ends if the last worksheet is encountered.
Export to Load-Ready Files (tab-delimited)
Exports sample data to Load-Ready files in a tab-delimited format with UTF-8 encoding.
Export to Load-Ready Files (fixed-field-length)
Exports sample data to Load-Ready files in a fixed-field-length format with UTF-8 encoding.
Export to Excel
Exports sample data to an Excel workbook, with one worksheet for each tab of sample data.
Add Row (1)
Adds 1 row to the grid in the active tab.
Add Rows (10)
Adds 10 rows to the grid in the active tab.
Add Rows (100)
Adds 100 rows to the grid in the active tab.
Delete rows based in primary key fields.
Checks the schema of the sample data against the currently defined selection of segments and fields.
Attempt to transfer existing sample data to the currently defined selection of segments and fields (i.e. the current structure definition of sample data).
Executes validation and produces a Validation Report as a new document in the main application window.
Execute validation of hierarchy data. Prerequisite is that when maintaining Primary Keys the Hierarchy and Hierarchy Description columns must be assigned.
Display Value Tables
This is a toggle to display or hide the display of value tables.
